ABOUT THE TEMPUS RANGE:
Cricket bats are made from natural timber (tell me something I don’t know, you say!). OK, so each cleft (raw bat before crafted) is unique with one off qualities, no two bats are ever the same, just like a finger print. You never know what lays under the surface of the timber until you start peeling it back (like an onion, some clefts can expose a dark side that can make me cry). We initially grade our bats based on the appearance of the face of the bat and any physical surface marks (straightness & gain numbers do come into account, but these days it’s not everything we look at). The grade of bat may change once we get deeper into the shaping of the blade, so that’s why we rely on the end product, including the ‘ping’ test before we categorise it into a final grade.
To represent the Tempus Cricket grade & qualities, our 1st release of Tempus Cricket bats are known by the following. I stuck with the Latin theme, and named each grade by a Latin phrase associated to Tempus (Time).
Grade 1: Tempus Fugit Edition: aka: “Time Flies Edition” (expect that ball to fly to the boundary after it connects with this beauty, this is the cream of the range, with amazing rebound qualities that just ping off the sweet spot!).
Grade 2: Tempus Rerum Imperator Edition: aka: “Time, Commander of all things Edition” (This bat commands the same respect as its Grade 1 counterpart, but has the added bonus of the extended life span of its Grade 3 sibling – don’t over look this grade, best value for money and all-rounder bat on offer!).
Grade 3: Tempus Edax Rerum Edition: aka: “Time, the devourer of all things Edition” (This bat is made to last the time! Grade 3 qualities are often overlooked, they may take time to fully knock in, but once they are, you won’t need to buy another bat to the end of time!)
Note: Academy size for women, older teenagers and small men are made standard in this Grade 3, but can be made from any other grade if your willing to pay the higher grade price.
Grade 4: Tempus Iunior Edition: aka: “Time Junior Edition” (Don’t be fooled that the young ones get the lower grade bats, in fact more than often they are leftovers of the senior bats that just couldn’t make size to be senior, so you really could get anyone of the above senior qualities, at a junior price! Note: these are available in size 5 to size 6 only, plus small Harrow).
*Note: all senior Tempus Cricket bats have been machine knocked-in and lightly oiled (extra $40 of value) and ready for you to take straight to the nets. This will save you the extra week it takes for this process, so you can get the bat ready for game day quicker. Tempus Cricket recommends 1-2 decent net sessions (use old soft balls only) before it’s ready for hard balls.
The more use the bat gets, the better the bat preforms. So either continue to use a mullet to knock-it-in, or if you trust your friends using your bat, then get them in the nets to have a hit too!
